“The Man We Call Dad”, the song.

I started this project writing a tribute-poem as my contribution to the Fathers’ Day celebration last year 2016, and have ended-up completing a song that I have decided to simply be titled as “The Man We Call Dad”—Dad being the most popular term for Father, in the western world. To listen and/or sing-a-along, you may click the image below.

The song tells of a man’s experiences both as a son and a father, and its final-lyrics goes this way:

“The Man We Call Dad”

When I was little,
He would hold me in his arms.
I felt his love and tenderness,
Always keeping me safe from harm.
I would look up to his eyes,
And his love is all I see.
How did I get so lucky,
That God chose him for me.
He’s always there, our family’s foundation
Through all the storms in life.
A hand to hold to,
In times of stress and strife.
A friend we can always cling to
In times, good or bad.
Indeed, our greatest blessing,
Is the man we call Dad.
He never looks for praises,
He’s never one that boasts.
He just goes on quietly working,
For those, he loves the most.
His dreams are seldom spoken,
His wants are very few.
And most of the time his worries,
Will go unspoken too.
He’s always there, our family’s foundation,
Through all the storms in life.
A hand to hold to,
In times of stress and strife.
A friend we can always cling to.
In times, good or bad.
Indeed, our greatest blessing
Is the man we call Dad…
or Papa/ Pai/ Baboo/ Bapa/ Tatay/ Pater/ Baba/ etc.

An excerpted and modified portion of Sungha Jung’s music “Yuki No Hana” was used to complete the song. Its accompaniment guitar-music and tab-sheets were created utilizing the state-of-the-art software GuitarPro 6 and MIDI Guitar 2.
